What areas are typically treated with dermal fillers ?

Treatments with Dermal Fillers are most effective in the lower face

 Lip lines
Nasolabial folds from the corner of the nose to the mouth
Marionette lines from the corner of the mouth and into the jaw line

Dermal fillers can be used to restore volume to thinning skin that can occur due to the ageing process or after weight loss. They will reduce sunken areas to give a more even contour and fresher appearance. They can also be used to define lips and cheekbone, flatter and freshen your individual appearance.

For the upper face Botox® may be more suitable (see the Antiwrinkle Injections page for more information)

► How does it work?
We use a new generation of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers; the Juvederm range from Allergan. Elevated levels of HA have the effect of attracting and retaining water, instantly improving the skin's appearance and texture by restoring its natural plumpness.
HA is a naturally occurring substance in the body but diminishes as we age. HA fillers are excellent for restoring volume to the facial structure, creating a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
► What does treatment involve?
Dermal filler is placed at precise depths of skin tissues using a very fine microcannula. Results are immediate although some swelling and redness may initially be present.
► How to begin treatment?
The first step is an Initial consultation with Dr Kandola to assess your medical history and ensure it is safe for you to have treatment. This is a free consultation and is required before any treatment is provided. She will discuss your expectations of treatment to establish how best to provide this. If treatment is appropriate photographs will be taken for planning and records, and you will return for a 30 minute treatment session
► Will it hurt?
Dr Kandola uses a micro-cannula to administer the filler. The use of a cannula has the benefits of minimal pain, less bruising, reduced swelling, lower risk of complications and a smooth, natural-looking result.
► How long before I see results?
Results can be seen immediately, but there may be some redness and swelling due to the application process that need to settle first.
► How long will it last?
Results are temporary as the body naturally breaks down and absorbs hydrologic acid. It takes between 6-12 months for this to happen.

Are dermal fillers safe?

At Smooth Line Clinic, we only use the Juvederm ® range form Allergan. This is FTA-approved and one of the leading dermal fillers on the market. It is temporary as your body will break it down over 6-12 months. As a naturally occurring substance in the body, responsible for lubricating the skin and joints, it is well tolerated by most patients.

All non-invasive procedures carry a small amount of risk which is why they are only administered after a face to face consultation with a trained medical practitioner. Dr Kandola is very familiar with the anatomy of the facial tissues and will carry out a full assessment, as well as discussing any possible side effects.
